Trista was so close to falling asleep as she listened to her teacher’s chemistry lecture.
Ms. Rambute, or Ms. Ram Butt as many of the students called her behind her back, stood in front of the class explaining to them the difference between an atom and a molecule.
Trista had tuned out from the lecture at the very start. They had already taken text notes, watched a movie, and did a lab on the differences of molecules and atoms so the lecture had nothing new about it.
She glanced around at some of the other students. Six of them were asleep with their heads down, CE being one of them. Three or four other students were looking close to joining them with their eyelids drooping.
And I’m one of them, thought Trista. Ms. Rambute couldn’t make a lecture interesting if some space alien beamed down in the middle of class and demanded her to.
As she looked at some of the other students, she locked onto Bill, the new guy. He was sitting attentively writing down every little detail he thought was important for him to know. An oddball is what Trista would describe him to be like.
Speaking of odd things, her mind wandered to the portal and the strange watches.
She pulled up her sleeve and stared at the watch on her wrist. So far, they had visited four different dimensions. Of the four, her favorite was the one where everything was exactly the same as the one she lived in except that everyone called chocolate Lateochoc.
But the dimension she was most interested in and kept thinking about was the one in the future where Jack’s friend Isaac still lived. Who was he and how could he live for over 1000 years?
As if he had known what Trista had been thinking about, Jack, who had a seat next to Trista, tapped her shoulder.
“Hm?”
“Hey Trista. I say we skip next period and go back to the future dimension with my friend.”
”We can’t just skip next period, even if its lunch!”
“Well whether you’re going or not, I am. I need to find out why he was still alive and what kind of future it was.”
Trista sighed, “Well then, I suppose I’ll come if you’re going anyway.”
“Great! When class is over, wake CE up and meet-”
A giant shadow suddenly engulfed them in darkness. Jack and Trista glanced up to see Ram Butt hovering over them with an annoyed look on her face.
“The least you two could do is take a nap. I know you already know all this stuff, but others may not, so if you would only be so kind as to not talk I could finish my lecture!”
At that time the bell rang and she sighed, “Class dismissed. Have a nice lunch class.”
Everyone got up to leave, even some of the people who apparently hadn’t been asleep at their desk. CE however, kept snoring.
“Trista, wake CE up and meet me by the portal. I’m going to get the others.”
Ten minutes later Jack met Trista and a sleepy CE at the portal.
But the only ones with Jack were Jesse and Secret Solver.
“Where are the others?”
Jack shrugged his shoulders, “Zack said he had a test he had to study for. I couldn’t find the others.”
Jesse said, “I’m only here because its tuna casserole day in the Cafeteria.” He made a face to show his distaste.
“Who cares, the five of us is more than enough. Now, who wants to open the portal?”
“Oh I do!” CE waved her watch in the air, “I haven’t done it yet!”
CE pushed some buttons and the portal came to life.
“Alright guys. Let’s go!”
They all stepped into the portal.
And were surrounded by men with guns.
The leader of the group pulled out a walkie-talkie and spoke into it.
“Hey boss, you were right. They did come back.”
